Who We Are
The 1991 Trauma Center Economic Study, conducted by Bishop + Associates (B+A) in collaboration with the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, initiated the development of the TCAA.
The study produced a baseline of trauma center financial performance and identified the economic challenges they faced. B+A then formed the Trauma Resource Network to develop strategies for economic stability and provide direct support to trauma centers. This included a robust collection of research projects and educational programs delivered to 200 trauma center members of the Trauma Resource Network and successfully proposing trauma response charges to the National Uniform Billing Committee (NUBC).
B+A CEO Greg Bishop then organized a board of national trauma surgery and hospital leaders to form a non-profit 501c6 association of trauma centers in 2002 named the National Foundation for Trauma Care (NFTC). In 2004, BA transferred the Trauma Resource Network to the NFTC, later renamed the Trauma Center Association of America.
The Trauma Center Association of America (TCAA) is dedicated to securing the economic viability of trauma centers and systems across the country. The Associationās vision would result in access to optimal trauma care for all. TCAA offers support in the areas of advocacy, operations and finance. Members receive education on best practices, advice on trauma finance and system development, finance consult visits, access to the most comprehensive trauma database and linkages to other trauma centers and systems. TCAA also offers the following courses: Basic and Advanced Finance & Business, Trauma Medical Director, Advanced Trauma Medical Director, Dynamic Leadership and PTSD Workshop.
